COVID Update
Following the move to Step 4 in the COVID-19 roadmap in the UK, the UK Government has updated it's guidance for landlords, tenants, and local authorities.
The information aligns with Propertymark’s best practice guidance and the UK Government has provided new details on the following areas:
- Ventilation and carrying out repairs and maintenance work
- Clinically extremely vulnerable people and repairs and maintenance work
- Reducing the risk of infection in shared accommodation, accommodation with shared facilities, and overcrowded accommodation
The UK Government are encouraging all parties to continue to show flexibility in relation to rent payments and rent repayment plans. If disputes over rent or other matters persist, landlords and tenants are encouraged to consider mediation.
The UK Government’s funded mediation service pilot for cases that have reached the courts has been ongoing since February 2021. It is free for landlords and tenants to use.

From 1 August 2021, the notice period for cases where there are less than 4 months of unpaid rent, will further reduce to 2 months’ notice.
The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (furlough) is in place until the end of September 2021. Employees will continue to receive 80% of wages for hours not worked. |
